Five Day Fly Fishing Trip Suggestions
The following suggested itinerary is designed to sample a wide variety of fly fishing waters
in Idaho. There are 6 to 7 hours of total drive time between these destinations. This itinerary
also assumes that you would fly in to Boise and out From Pocatello. Use the driving time to rest,
and take in the beauty of this wonderful state. Even the most hard-core fisher should look up
from the river on occasion!
If you are starting from Boise and have five days to fish, I would
recommend fishing the South Fork of the Boise River for the first day. Drive to
Ketchum and spend the night.
Spend the next day fishing the Big Wood River between Hailey and Ketchum. Don't forget, there
are some very nice tributaries north of Ketchum. During your off time, make sure to ask questions
about Silver Creek at the fly shops.
On the third day, I would suggest fishing Silver Creek in the morning. You'll be tired
by now; I guarantee it. Why not take a break and drive a couple hours up to Henry's Fork? Of course,
you could just fish Silver Creek all day and drive to Pocatello after dark.
Spend the next two days fishing Henry's Fork. I consider the Boise River, Big Wood River,
and Silver Creek to be "do it yourself" rivers. If you are accoustomed to travel and
finding fish wherever your plane lands, you should be in good shape on these rivers. For
Henry's Fork, I would strongly suggest hooking up with a guide.
