Alaska Fly Fishing Trip

Three Day Fly Fishing Trip Suggestions

Talkeetna River

Under the shadow of Denali, two hours north of Anchorage at milepost 99 of the George Parks Highway, the town of Talkeetna makes a good base camp to fish the Willow and nearby streams like Little Willow, Caswell and Montana creeks (below Talkeetna). You can walk into all of these streams from the road. The trout fishing goes all through October, and from Anchorage, Willow is just an hour-and-a-half drive to the north.

Upper Kenai River

Another great option to consider is the Kenai River. Coopers Landing, on the upper Kenai River, is two and a half hour drive from Anchorage. This legendary water is heavily fished during the King Salmon runs from June until early July. However, once the Kings finish their business, the river is just getting primed for fly fishing.
